I. Introduction

Threaded flange refers to a type of flange that is connected to pipes by threads. It processes the inner hole of the flange into pipe threads and connects them with threaded pipes. It is a non-welded flange. Compared with flat welding flanges or butt-welding flanges, threaded flanges have the characteristics of convenient installation and maintenance, and can be used on some pipelines where welding is not allowed on site.

Threaded flanges do not fall under high-pressure flanges. Their applicable pressure range is generally between 0.6 and 4.0Mpa, and the diameter is DN10 to DN150. Although the cost of threaded flanges is relatively high, they remain a popular connection method in many situations due to their convenience in installation and maintenance.

Ii. Principle

The connection principle of threaded flanges is relatively simple. It mainly relies on the inner hole of the flange and the threads turned on the pipe on the pipeline for matching connection. Specifically, the inner hole of the flange is machined with threads, and then the corresponding threads are machined on the pipe as well. Finally, the two are connected by rotating and tightening. This connection method does not require welding, so it will not cause welding stress or deformation to the pipeline, and the additional torque it generates on the cylinder or pipeline is also very small.

However, it should be noted that under conditions of sudden temperature changes in the pipeline or when the temperature is above 260℃ or below -45℃, threaded flanges may leak due to thermal expansion and contraction or changes in material properties. Therefore, under these conditions, it is recommended not to use threaded flanges.

Overall, threaded flanges are a convenient, fast and reliable way to connect pipes, suitable for a variety of occasions.
